About Meera

Meera is a consultant, narrative therapist and clinical supervisor based in Vancouver, she also works in Toronto and Berlin.

Meera is Associate Faculty at City University of Seattle, Vancouver Island campus in the Master of Counselling program.

Previously she spent 15 years in the non profit sector in Toronto, in front line, program planning and development in the anti violence sector, homelessness and housing and the HIV/AIDS sector.

After completion of her Master of Social Work degree she moved into health care, hospitals and palliative care.

Her previous teaching experience was in the schools of social work at Toronto Metropolitan University and University of British Columbia.

Meera’s doctoral research focuses on how queer of colour cultural knowledge can better shape and inform the work and education of therapists.

She seeks to move beyond the current frameworks of LGBT competencies and gay affirming therapy. She teaches a practice called queer worldmaking which centers cultural knowledge, queer theory, intersectionality and decolonial theories.

Her PhD was a collaborative degree with the Taos Institute and Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Her work can transform the education and professional practice in counselling and social work.
